The 12th Annual Africa Women Cup of Nations kicked off over the weekend. Women’s football in Cameroon is highly celebrated, and some 40,000 fans showed to wave flags and demonstrate the support. The national team, the Lionesses, won 2 - 0, but their victory is more significant than a single match. The aim of the Cup of Nations was to bring investment to the area and encourage tourism, to what is known as “Africa in miniature” due to its vast ethnic diversity. We wish them the best of luck.
A street in Hamburg will be named after Domenica Niehoff, the country's most famous dominatrix. Niehoff died in 2009, famous for campaigning for sex workers rights and helping women who were struggling with drug addiction. Her legacy, and that of 10 other famous women will live on in the street names and remind others of the fight for sex workers rights. An amazing step forward in removing the taboo!
A Guinness World Record title was achieved by 1,623 women in Mumbai, as the most people holding the abdominal plank position. As part of a campaign with PUMA, they wanted the attempt to showcase the empowerment and strength of women. Well done ladies and new world record holders!
